Re-writing my hair story
I’m sure you’ll find this scene familiar.
10 years ago I was exhausted with my hair. The never-ending cycle of experimentation -different products, hairstyles, hair treatments, hairdressers – I was done.
This lifelong quest to make my hair act in a certain way wasn’t working – it was a drain.
It was laborious. It was frustrating. It was expensive. And after all that, I still didn’t feel great about my hair. Why couldn’t I have hair that I loved? Was that not an option for a black woman? Did it have to be this hard?
History
The Mission
I had to find answers. As I delved further into black hair care, I found my story was repeated again and again. In fact, it seemed to be a standard experience for black women.
I knew we were entitled to better. Why couldn’t we have hair that we loved? I set out on a mission to understand why. The key questions I wanted to answer were:
- Why do we experience so many challenges with our hair?
- Why do so many of us feel our hair reaches a point where it seems to stop growing?
- Why do we seem to spend so much on products that don't deliver?
- Why does the black hair industry thrive, whilst we as customers don't seem to benefit?
History
Black Hair Mastery Is Born
My journey took me to every corner of the black hair industry. Along the way I formed brilliant partnerships with award-winning black hairdressers, celebrity stylists, product manufacturers and more.
It wasn’t long before it became clear that a solution was needed to provide hair care education black women could trust. That solution is Black Hair Mastery.
Working alongside contributors from every area of the black hair industry, we’re on a mission to revolutionise black hair education. Sharing information, tips, theories and techniques, we’re here to simplify the complexities of black hair care.
